Changing perceptions and winning...
Established in 1809, WMCC has always been a small club, with one pitch, no youth set up and caught between two towns that have made community connectivity problematic. But the club has had a strong 2020 season that has seen both teams at the club promoted, and the momentum continues towards the 2021 season, with new teams being formed to accommodate a growing membership base.
So how have a club that see themselves as being ‘small in stature’ seen growth in a short period of time during a pandemic? Ask the club, and they will tell you that it has been directly associated with the introduction of SNAP Sponsorship who have advanced three key areas within the club.
Thinking differently
Firstly, when SNAP spoke with WMCC, we discussed who they were, what they wanted their future to be and what processes they could implement to help attain those goals. This detailed, personalised support allowed WMCC to reflect on various ideas to establish what would help the club succeed.
One example from this has been the production of the club’s coloured 2nd kit, not only attracting new members, but local businesses who wanted to sponsor the 'opportunities' on the kit! This allowed WMCC to lower the cost of the kit for their members and build ongoing relationships with their sponsors!
Saving time, reducing admin, and being more effective
Secondly, after they had created their assets and opportunities including the benefits package, WMCC used the social media sharing tool to engage businesses. Without it the ability to connect with businesses is extremely demanding. The use of SNAP’s platform enabled a seamless transaction of information, allowing WMCC to showcase what they could offer, which in turn engaged businesses in conversation. Rather than the club pursuing them, thus entirely changing both our mentality and approach towards managing business relations.
Getting Organised
Finally, the club used the social media sharing tool to schedule their posts in advance of future fixtures to ensure that their sponsors were being thanked! Not only does this free up time for their volunteers to focus on match day activities. It also relieves the manual operation of social media giving the club a greater professional image, which has been the driving force behind the club’s successful recruitment phase for the 2021 season.
