About us:

Welcome to the official SNAP profile of Walmley Cricket and Sports Club.

Who are we?
Founded in 1886, Walmley Cricket Club has a rich history deeply embedded in the heart of its community. In its inaugural year, the club contested its first matches on a field adjacent to the Fox Pub in the centre of Walmley, with founding members J. Clifford, I. Langley, and C. Humphries laying the foundation. For the initial 33 years, the club proudly played at the heart of the village, contributing to the local sports and social fabric. In 1919, the club marked a significant milestone by relocating to its present ground at Penns Park off Penns Lane. Over the years, Walmley Cricket Club has become a breeding ground for cricket talent, with several international players, including Chris Woakes, Dean Hoffman, Amy Jones, Becky Grundy, Sarah Taylor, Rory Kliendveldt, Lionel Baker, Alvin Kallicharran, and Tim Gruiters, representing the club. The club's commitment to community engagement has expanded, with the inclusion of Colron Football Club in 2019 and the establishment of a thriving men's darts team. Walmley Cricket Club stands as a testament to its enduring legacy and ongoing commitment to sportsmanship and community integration.

Cricket

Walmley Cricket Club boasts a comprehensive structure with six senior teams participating in the Warwickshire League on Saturdays, with the 1st XI competing in the prestigious Premier League. On Sundays, the club fields two senior teams in the Arden Sunday League, while the Women's team competes in Division 1 of the Midlands League. The Youth Section is a vibrant hub, featuring an impressive 13 youth sides for both boys and girls engaged in 24 different leagues. The club's commitment to nurturing talent is evident through its mini league, established in 2006, providing a platform for 100 youngsters aged 5 to 9 annually and serving as a crucial feeder for the Senior Section. With training programs running in both Summer and Winter, the club caters to the development of over 200 young cricketers, reinforcing its dedication to fostering a strong and inclusive cricket community.

Football

Established in 1972, the football club has evolved into a vibrant sports community since its inception with just two teams. Originally based in Streetly, West Midlands, the club made a pivotal move to Walmley in 2019, where it entered into a successful joint venture with Walmley Cricket Club, leading to its rebranding as Walmley Colron. Currently boasting an impressive roster of 18 teams, including two girl’s teams and 16 boy’s teams, the club caters to players from U7's to U17's, with a total of 230 enthusiastic kids. Beyond competitive play, the club extends its commitment to grassroots development by supporting a Saturday football school for 4 to 6-year-olds, attracting approximately 35 attendees each session, fostering the foundation for future teams each season.

Remarkably, the club remains a testament to the power of volunteerism, as it continues to be run entirely by dedicated volunteers who contribute their time and passion to nurture the love for football within the community.
