The Club Today

Established in 1974, St Vallier AFC offers grassroots football opportunities for children, youth, men and women of all ages and abilities in the South-West of England.

Our junior teams play in the Hanham Minor League and the Avon Youth League and since 2020, we also run an adult Men’s team, who play in the Bristol Suburban League and an adult Ladies’ team which play in the South West Regional Women's Football League.

We have mixed teams from reception through to Year 11 and as we are an FA Charter Standard football club, we expect everyone associated with our football club to be fully aware of the FA "Respect Campaign" which ensures a fun, safe and inclusive environment.

The Respect Codes of Conduct are in place to ensure that everyone involved within an FA Charter Standard club or league is playing their part to provide all players with a positive experience.

We also hold a summer football tournament each year, which in 2023, took place in June.

The Men’s football team has gone from strength-to-strength with back-to-back league titles. They competed in the final of both cup competitions in the 22–23 season – winning one of the finals to complete a historic moment with a league and cup victory in the same season. 

The Ladies' team had a good season competing in Tier 6 which also included a first for St Vallier with a team competing in the FA Cup. The Women had a good season just missing out on promotion by the finest of margins, but with the team having the top scorer for the whole league, they will be looking to build next season and push for promotion. The Women's team are part of 'Her Game Too' and proudly display the badges on their kit. 

What’s next for St Vallier? We’d like to move to better facilities where we have more control over the pitches and can control our own destiny more than at present and look at how we can move girls football forward, giving them teams they can play in exclusively. 

We have had a few players come through St Vallier's youth teams who have progressed onto a professional career and we're hoping that by continuing to develop our youth pathways into adult football, we'll help to produce more successful footballing careers.

2024 is a big year for the club as we will be celebrating 50 years of being established in grassroots football.

History of Our Club

St Vallier AFC was founded in 1974. The team name comes from its roots in Filton and being twinned with St Vallier in France. 

St Vallier has always been primarily focused on youth teams and the youth football leagues but in 2018, when Scott Harris became Chairman and some new committee members joined us, some exciting and innovative ideas to take the club in a new direction were announced. 

The club made the decision to add a Men's football team to provide our talented youth players with a direct pathway into adult football, staying with the club they know. 

The club provides grassroots football from the ages of 4 upwards starting in the YDS (Youth Development Scheme) right up to Under 18s. 

The club has also moved into Women’s football, bringing in a Women’s team as part of the club. Women were interested in joining our club as they could see that they would be provided with the support they needed and the independence to control their team's direction along with the support of the St Vallier's committee. A Women's team also provides a pathway for our Weetabix Wildcats.

Our Weetabix Wildcats were formed to provide football playing opportunities for young girls and we run training sessions for them every Saturday, providing a fun experience and a safe and secure environment to play in. The Weetabix Wildcats are currently made up of mixed teams but our aim is to form girls only teams to create a dedicated pathway to the adult Women's team.

Aspirations

With membership and crowd attendances rising, we have ambitious plans to continue to develop the infrastructure at the club and grow our teams. We're currently negotiating with the local council to get a long-term lease to obtain our own ground but this is currently pending and we'll provide updates as soon as we have any information.

We've recently adopted a women's team who have now fully integrated with our club and are doing really well and were a point away from being promoted to the next level this season. 

Naturally, we want to support our sponsors and build them in to our club on a strategic level — allowing all of our partners to benefit from our ever-improving facilities, expanding audience and our community involvement.
